Laxton is a rural village in the midlands, dating from the Norman Conquest.
Visitors these days can still see the castle site at the edge of the village, and see the areas best preserved motte and bailey castle.
One can also view the lovely, and fine looking, St Michael’s church that dates from early 12th century and is still regularly used to this day.
Nonetheless, what makes Laxton truly individual is its continued use of the open farming system.
The village is the last remaining open field system in Europe and one can walk the area on your own or go on a tour with a local, that we can organise if you want.
There is an information centre in Laxton with free admission and lots more information about Laxton and its history.
At the heart of Laxton is the village pub where you can discover great value, locally sourced food, as well as agreeable villagers who will happily tell you a tale or two.
The Goat House at Ivy Cottage is int he centre of the village and goes back nearly 200 years.
Having recently been renovated to a high standard, we offer great value bed and breakfast with a master bedroom, a twin bedroom and one family sized bathroom.
