NTRP Rating Written Description and Evaluators Comments

1.5 - 2.0 You could describe yourself as a newbie. You know how to serve and hit volleys but you haven’t built any game consistency. You have learned how to keep track of score. You basically love the game of tennis and desire to meet up with other people who have the same passion.
Admin Comments: Recreational division, About 5% of the tennis players are in this skill level. You’re a beginner. We’d like all Beginner’s to participate in the Tennis Partner Program until they gain sufficient experience to take part in the tennis seasons.

2.5 Needs on-court experience. Has obvious stroke failings but is use to with original positions for singles and doubles play. 2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although tennis court coverage is weak. Can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.
Comments: Recreational skill level, About 10% of the players are in this division. You’re an advanced beginner in this category. We hope the minimum ability tennis players have is to be able to serve and maintain a couple stroke rally.

3.0 Fairly consistent when making mid-paced strokes, but isn’t comfortable with all shots and lacks execution when trying for leading control, depth or might. Most common doubles formation is one-up and one-back.
Admin Comments: Skilled skill level, About 20% of the players are in this division

3.25 You’re in-between 3.0 and 3.5 Skill grade.
Comments: Comp2 skill level, This level appears when the program’s league is large enough and we have plenty returning tennis tennis players. The add-on of this level allows the league to fine tune the levels and the matches incline to be closer. Playoff qualifiers participate in the Competitive playoffs.

3.5 Has achieved improved stroke dependability with leading control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and mixture. Starting to display more aggressive net play, has improved tennis court coverage.

3.75 You’re in-between 3.5 and 4.0 Skill rating.

4.0 Has dependable strokes, including directing control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate tennis shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach strokes and volleys with some success. From Time to Time pulls errors when serving.
Admin Comments: Advanced1 division, About 20% of the tennis players are in this division. Rusty players should start off in the Competitive division first. Scores are closely monitored by the league for Purity of Competition Rules.

4.5 Masters the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has good footwork, can control depth of strokes and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to over hit on difficult tennis shots.
Admin Comments: Elite skill level, About 5% of the tennis players are in this skill level. Most tennis players need to earn their way into this division or have proof of 4.5 rating.
